1:3 so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1:4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
4 Keys for Spiritual Partnership
(1)The REALITY of Jesus (1:1)
(2)The HOPE of eternal life (1:2)
(3)The PROMISE of joy (1:3-4)
(4)The ABILITY to overcome (1:5-9)
(1)The REALITY of Jesus (1:1)
Talk about Jesus more than your differences.
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—
Talk about Jesus’:
•character (beginning)
John 1:1-3
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1 John 1:1

(2)The HOPE of eternal life (1:2)
1:2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 1:3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you,
Live for eternity more than this world.
2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 2:16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. 2:17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
1:2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 1:3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you,

(3)The PROMISE of joy (1:3-4)
Find greater joy in growth than in comfort.
1:3 so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1:4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

(4) The ABILITY to overcome sin (1:2)
Develop a greater dependence on the Lord’s plan than your own.
God’s Plan:
God’s Plan:
•Don’t hide (1:5)
1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1:6 If we say we have fellowship with him
while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
• Don’t deny (1:6)

• Don’t isolate (1:7)
1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
• •Don’t defend (1:8)
1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
•Do depend on his faithfulness to forgive and his ability to cleanse. (1:9)
1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1:10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
